What are the symptoms of uterine cavity adhesion?

Patient's question:

What are the symptoms of uterine adhesions? Hello! I want to ask about the symptoms of uterine adhesions. I haven't been able to get pregnant for over two years, and I don't know what to do. Without a child, the family feels like something is missing. My sister told me to go to the hospital for a check-up, and the other day I actually had uterine adhesions.

Doctor's answer:

What are the clinical manifestations of intrauterine adhesions? Adhesions in the uterine cavity, isthmus, and cervical canal caused by trauma and secondary infection, which clinically present with amenorrhea, hypomenorrhea, and infertility, are referred to as Intrauterine Adhesion Syndrome (IUA). Generally, the clinical manifestations vary slightly depending on the location and extent of the adhesions.
I. Physical Examination
Lower abdominal tenderness is present, with rebound tenderness and even tenderness upon palpation in severe cases. Gynecological examination reveals a normally sized or slightly enlarged, soft uterus with significant tenderness, sometimes accompanied by cervical motion tenderness. Bilateral adnexal examination may show normal findings in mild cases, but in severe cases, tenderness, thickening, or palpable masses may be present. The posterior fornix may have tenderness, and even posterior fornix puncture may yield unclotting dark red blood, leading to the term "ectopic pregnancy-like syndrome."
II. Symptoms
Symptoms vary depending on the location of the adhesions but primarily include amenorrhea accompanied by cyclical abdominal pain after repeated induced abortions or uterine curettage.
