Can azoospermia be cured and how is it treated?

Patient's question:

Hello, I would like to ask if azoospermia can be cured and how it can be treated. I have been married for several years and have not had any children. At first, I thought it was my wife's problem, but after some tests, I found out it was my own issue. I have azoospermia. Could you please tell me what causes azoospermia and if it can be cured?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Azoospermia refers to the condition where sperm is not found in multiple semen analyses (usually more than 3 times). If necessary, testicular biopsy, seminal tract imaging, and radioimmunoassay of endocrine hormones can be performed to help differentiate between obstructive azoospermia and congenital azoospermia. Some cases of male infertility can be treated, while others cannot. Infections in male accessory glands, such as prostatitis, orchitis, epididymitis, seminal vesiculitis, and varicocele, can lead to poor sperm quality. Unstable levels of endocrine hormones, low testosterone, and high estrogen also contribute to poor sperm quality. Additionally, long-term exposure to high-temperature work environments, excessive smoking, and alcohol consumption are related factors.
