He quickly adopts the vices of high society, only to discover that his benefactor is actually a fugitive he had unintentionally helped. When his benefactor is arrested again and his property confiscated, Pip becomes penniless once more. With the help of his friends, Pip travels overseas to work and earn money, and eventually achieves some success. During a visit to his brother-in-law's hometown, he coincidentally meets Estella, finally fulfilling the dream he had as a young boy.
