20th Century Chinese Literary Experience - (Volume 1 and 2)

Author: Yang Kuanghan

Publish Date: 2006-04-01
Features: This book takes the literature of 20th-century China as a whole object of study. When entering the major shift of the "century of literature" with critical reflection, it transcends the common "Western impact—Chinese response" framework, focusing on integrating new knowledge from a Chinese perspective to examine a literary century of innovation and change. Looking back with a contemporary lens, it refines tradition, assesses gains and losses, and selects key phenomena and issues in the process of 20th-century literary development, transforming "experience" from "experience." It adopts a cross-sectional and vertical structural model to conduct in-depth and detailed discussions.
From the unique cultural context of China, it delves deeper into the true origins and inherent complexity of "literary modernity." From the perspectives of social trends and academic resources, it offers new considerations of the "Left-wing—Yan'an" literature and the construction of a new culture of an era. From the viewpoint of the aestheticization of politics and the politicization of aesthetics, it reorganizes the relationships between literature and politics, city and countryside, gender and writing, and media and production in a fresh way. From the angle of historical context and spiritual conditions, it pays special attention to the life journeys and survival strategies of representative modern and contemporary writers. Additionally, from the spatial and temporal dimensions of a century of Chinese literature, it provides new interpretations and explorations of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and overseas Chinese literature.
Following the guiding principles of "local perspective, problem awareness, historical restoration, and bridging fragmentation," the book combines the rigor and depth of an academic monograph with the vitality of reflection and innovation, revealing the spiritual essence amidst the complexities of the world. This book is the result of a major project of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (Category A), and together with the previously published History and Theory of 20th-Century Chinese Literature and Comprehensive History of 20th-Century Chinese Literature by the same publisher, it forms a "trilogy" of "Eastern edition" research on the "century of Chinese literature," offering readers a shared wisdom.
