Practical exercises are provided at the end of each major chapter to enhance students' hands-on skills. This book can serve as a teaching material for students and teachers in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine pharmaceutical manufacturing, pharmaceutical analysis, traditional Chinese medicine, and pharmacy within the secondary vocational education system in medicine and pharmacy. It can also be used as a reference for scientific and technical personnel in the field of traditional Chinese medicine pharmaceutical manufacturing. [Preface] Compilation Notes This book was organized and compiled by the National Association for Vocational and Technical Education in Medicine and Pharmacy and is intended for use in secondary vocational education programs in traditional Chinese medicine pharmaceutical manufacturing, pharmaceutical analysis, traditional Chinese medicine, and pharmacy. According to the training objectives and teaching syllabus of the national vocational and technical education system in medicine and pharmacy, the content of this textbook primarily focuses on plant-based traditional Chinese medicines, emphasizing the structure, properties, basic knowledge, theories, and skills of various important chemical components in traditional Chinese medicine, as well as their extraction, separation, and preliminary identification. It also highlights the role of traditional Chinese medicine chemistry in the modernization and industrialization of traditional Chinese medicine. Given that this discipline is an applied basic science, while ensuring the systematicity and completeness of the knowledge, this textbook places strong emphasis on practicality, taking into account the needs of secondary vocational graduates in real-world work. Based on previous editions of secondary vocational textbooks, this edition has undergone significant revisions: some research-oriented, exploratory, and advanced theoretical knowledge has been removed, such as macroporous resin chromatography and spectroscopy from the original textbook; some less widely used knowledge has been moved from key chapters to non-key chapters, such as lignans; an appendix has been added at the end of the textbook for students to refer to; and a section on the preliminary identification methods of traditional Chinese medicine chemical components has been added. Additionally, specific content in each chapter has been adjusted and revised. The experimental sections, which were previously research-oriented, have been transformed into practical exercises and distributed at the end of each chapter to strengthen practical training and focus on cultivating students' operational skills. During the compilation process of this textbook, schools have provided strong support and assistance, and many colleagues have offered valuable suggestions and opinions. The authors express their sincere gratitude for this. Due to the authors' limited level and capabilities, as well as the urgency of the timeline, there may be imperfections in the book, and the readers are kindly requested to point out any errors or omissions.
