Features: The Loess Plateau region is one of the most severely eroded, ecologically fragile, and economically underdeveloped areas in China. Severe soil erosion not only constrains the sustainable development of the local economy and society but also poses a significant threat to the safety of the lower Yellow River, becoming a long-standing and critical issue for the Chinese nation. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Loess Plateau has been recognized as a key area for soil and water conservation, receiving high attention from the Party and the State. It pioneered large-scale soil and water conservation governance and scientific research efforts nationwide, achieving remarkable accomplishments that have garnered international acclaim. In many well-managed areas and small and medium-sized river basins, soil erosion has been effectively controlled, the landscape of impoverished mountainous regions has been significantly transformed, river sedimentation has been reduced, the Yellow River has been kept navigable, and active contributions have been made to promoting the sustainable development of the national economy. To enhance the exchange of scientific and technological achievements, since 1990, the Yellow River Middle and Upper Reaches Administration Commission has compiled and published two research paper anthologies: "Soil and Water Conservation Practices and Research on the Loess Plateau" and "Soil and Water Conservation Practices and Research on the Loess Plateau (Volume II)." Following the publication of the previous two anthologies, this edition selects and compiles 252 papers published by the commission's scientific and technical personnel in provincial and above-level journals and presented at major domestic academic conferences since 1997. These papers have been organized into two volumes: "Soil and Water Conservation Practices and Research on the Loess Plateau (1997-2000)" and "Soil and Water Conservation Practices and Research on the Loess Plateau (2001-2004)." They are intended to serve as references for researchers, planners, designers, and managers in the field of soil and water conservation.
