Why is the menstrual cycle regular after stopping long-term birth control pills?

Patient's question:

Doctor,
I usually have a regular menstrual cycle, but after stopping my long-term birth control pill in July, my periods became irregular. They were delayed from June 8th to the following month’s 13th, 18th, 28th, 0th (the 1st of the next month), 6th, and 16th. Then, in January of the following year, my period started on the 15th and ended on the 19th. Later, on January 31st, I noticed a small amount of blood, and on February 1st, it increased slightly. Could you please explain why this is happening? Is it possible that it’s abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB)?
Additional information: I’ve had this issue a couple of times before. After my period ended, I would have a small amount of dark brown discharge after about 10 days.

Doctor's answer:

How old are you? Taking birth control pills may cause menstrual disorders. It's best to consult a gynecologist at the hospital!
