How is ectopic pregnancy treated?

Patient's question:

On January 13, 2017, I was admitted to the hospital due to lower abdominal pain for two days. I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy and underwent immediate surgery due to significant internal bleeding. During the surgery, no embryonic villi were found, nor were they present in the fallopian tubes. Later, I received injections to lower my HCG levels.
To this day, I still don’t understand what could have caused this. Could experts help me with an explanation?

Doctor's answer:

Did you confirm pregnancy before the surgery? Have you had an ultrasound examination?
