Patient's question:
I am 5 months pregnant, and my family all hopes this is a son. Rural areas are quite feudal, insisting on having a son. When I was 3 months pregnant, I went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor said it was too early to see clearly. He advised me to come back for another check-up at 5 months. What kind of help do I need: Is the gender determination from a 3D ultrasound scan accurate?
Doctor's answer:
Four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound can observe the growth and development of the fetus in the uterus from multiple directions and angles, providing accurate scientific evidence for the early diagnosis of congenital external malformations and congenital heart diseases in the fetus. Past B-ultrasound equipment could only examine the physiological indicators of the fetus, while four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound can also examine the external features of the fetus, such as cleft lip, spina bifida, brain, kidney, heart, and skeletal developmental abnormalities, to enable early treatment. Generally, the gender of the baby cannot be viewed from the four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound data, but after the twelfth week of pregnancy, the gender of the baby can be seen through B-ultrasound. However, medical fetal gender determination is prohibited in China.
