Patient's question:
I haven't seen my boyfriend for a long time. About two weeks ago, my boyfriend had sexual intercourse during my ovulation period without using a condom. Recently, I've been feeling unwell, a bit like nausea. This morning, I took a pregnancy test, and it showed a weak positive result. The line on one side was very clear, while the other line wasn't very distinct. I'm very worried. What kind of help do I need: Is a positive test result on the pregnancy test actually pregnancy?Doctor's answer:
You had intercourse during your ovulation period, which is very likely to result in pregnancy. Since the pregnancy duration is still short, the test is weakly positive. You can retest 7 to 10 days after your period is delayed, and it is estimated to be strongly positive. At 45 to 50 days of pregnancy, you can go to the hospital for a urine test and ultrasound, which should confirm the diagnosis, as this is when there will be cardiovascular activity. An ultrasound examination can be performed around 50 days of pregnancy to confirm whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy and to assess the fetal condition. If the examination is normal, a Down syndrome screening test should be conducted between weeks 14 and 19 of pregnancy. At week 20, choose a suitable hospital to establish a prenatal care card and conduct regular prenatal check-ups (some may start establishing the prenatal care card and regular check-ups as early as three months into pregnancy). After establishing the prenatal care card, you will generally have a check-up every four weeks until 36 weeks of pregnancy, and then weekly check-ups after 36 weeks. If any discomfort occurs during this process, you can visit the doctor at any time to increase the frequency of check-ups.
