Patient's question:
Three months have passed since giving birth, but I still feel bloated and painful in my lower abdomen. Yesterday, following the doctor's advice, I had a check-up, and the results showed that my uterus had not returned to its previous size. Now I don't know what to do because I've heard that most people recover much earlier. What kind of help do I need: What are the signs of a uterus recovering well after childbirth?
Doctor's answer:
A few women may have lochia that lasts for 1 to 2 months even under normal conditions, while most women's lochia stops within one month. If lochia still persists for more than 3 months postpartum, it is considered lochia retention, indicating the presence of pathological factors. Common causes include uterine cavity infection and poor uterine involution. The most severe complication is choriocarcinoma. These are all pathological conditions that should not be ignored. If lochia retention occurs after one month, accompanied by an offensive odor or foul smell, or accompanied by abdominal pain and fever, it may indicate infection in the uterus, adnexa (fallopian tubes, ovaries), or vagina. If the amount of lochia gradually increases daily, the color becomes redder and darker daily, or clots appear, these are abnormal signs. They may be due to uterine bleeding, cervical or vaginal trauma, or infection.
It is recommended that you take medication under the guidance of a doctor.
