What are the causes of placenta previa?

Patient's question:

When I was pregnant, I felt a sore throat and nausea every morning, and I had to force myself to vomit. At 23 weeks, I went to the hospital for a 4D ultrasound, and everything was normal, except that it showed the placenta was in a low-lying position. At 31 weeks, during another ultrasound, it still showed the placenta in a low-lying position. I am very puzzled and want to find out the reason behind the low-lying placenta.
What kind of help do I need: What causes the placenta to be low-lying?

Doctor's answer:

Normal placenta is attached to the posterior wall, anterior wall, or lateral wall of the uterine body. If the placenta is attached to the lower segment of the uterus, or even the lower edge of the placenta reaches or covers the internal cervical os, its position is lower than the presenting part of the fetus, which is called placenta previa. The main cause of placenta previa is pathological changes in the endometrium of the uterine body, such as postpartum infection, multiple pregnancies, or curettage, which can lead to endometritis or endometrial damage. This results in incomplete growth of uterine decidua vessels. When the fertilized egg implants, blood supply is insufficient, and to obtain sufficient nutrients, the placental area expands and extends to the lower segment of the uterus.
