Features: Based on the author's first-hand teaching experience in preparing senior high students for the English middle school entrance exam, we have compiled 20 sets of high school English reading ability timed training questions according to the original format of the exam. Each set of training questions is designed as a template for the English middle school entrance exam reading section, including 1 cloze test and 5 reading comprehension passages. The reason for combining cloze test and reading comprehension in this training is that these two types of questions are the main formats for assessing reading ability in English exams and are also the most challenging parts for many students. At the same time, they account for the largest proportion of the English college entrance exam score, so the authors believe that these two parts should not be trained separately. The training questions in the book are arranged from easy to difficult, with each set recommended to be completed in 45 minutes. Students can carry out planned training at fixed times each week according to their own circumstances. During training, record the start and end times, and after completion, summarize the results, calculate the time used and the accuracy rate. After a period of training, check whether your English reading ability has improved and by how much. Whether the time taken is reduced or the correct answer rate is improved, it is progress. At the same time, as the exercises progress, the questions will become more difficult, and students should take this factor into account when evaluating their performance.
According to the difficulty coefficient of reading passages specified in the new English curriculum standards, the book lists the difficulty coefficient of each passage at the end for reference. Among them: 70-80 is relatively difficult to read; 80-90 is easy to read; 90-100 is very easy to read. The higher the difficulty coefficient, the easier the passage is, but this does not mean that the difficulty of the questions raised in the passage.
At the end of each set of training questions, there are answer explanations, and at the beginning of the book, there is a detailed explanation of the specific problem-solving techniques for cloze test and reading comprehension. It is hoped that students can carefully reflect and summarize while reading this book, and through extensive training, achieve a proficient application of these techniques.
