Features: The differential diagnosis and treatment of diseases are the core components of clinical work. This book focuses on these two aspects, written collectively by experts from departments of gastroenterology, abdominal surgery, infectious diseases, imaging, and oncology, and is divided into two main parts. The first part is the General Theory, which systematically elaborates on the treatment methods for digestive system diseases, including drug therapy, nutritional therapy, endoscopic therapy, treatment of electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, radiotherapy, gene therapy, and surgical treatment. The second part is the Specific Theory, which introduces the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of various common inflammatory diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, peritoneum, and mesentery, as well as viral hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, liver vascular diseases, liver cancer, biliary and pancreatic diseases, intestinal infectious diseases, and digestive system tumors. The content is comprehensive, detailed, and incorporates the latest clinical advancements, making it highly practical for gastroenterologists, graduate students, and faculty of medical schools.
[Preface] In the process of disease diagnosis and treatment, diagnosis serves as the basis for treatment, often summarized as "treating the symptoms." To achieve an accurate diagnosis, it is essential to rule out other possible diseases, which is known as "differential diagnosis." Given that there are already several specialized books on digestive system diseases in China, but fewer focus on differential diagnosis and treatment, Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Digestive System Diseases centers on disease treatment while supplementing it with differential diagnosis content. It comprehensively covers diagnostic key points or criteria for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, bile ducts, pancreas, peritoneum, omentum, and mesentery. Striving for thorough differential diagnosis, it elaborates on various disease treatments, including principles, methods, indications and contraindications, precautions, and adverse reactions, in detail. Thus, it truly becomes a specialized book on differential diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases.
The authors referenced the latest domestic and international literature and combined their extensive clinical experience to summarize concise, accurate, and efficient diagnostic and treatment protocols. After a year of effort, this book is now presented to the readers, with the hope of providing high reference value and contributing to the improvement of professional theoretical knowledge.
The entire book of Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Digestive System Diseases exceeds 1.7 million words and is divided into two main parts. The first part, the General Theory, introduces various treatments in chapters, accounting for about one-third of the book, with a total of 12 chapters, including drug therapy, nutritional therapy, endoscopic therapy, treatment of electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, antibiotic therapy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, gene therapy, interventional therapy, liver transplantation, and artificial liver. The second part, the Specific Theory, covers the differential diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, categorized by the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum and anus, peritoneum, mesentery, omentum, liver, bile ducts, and pancreas. To ensure comprehensiveness and uniqueness, chapters are also dedicated to digestive hormone tumors, gastrointestinal infectious diseases, and viral hepatitis. Due to the broad scope and involvement of multiple disciplines, this book was written by renowned experts and professors from departments of gastroenterology, abdominal surgery, infectious diseases, imaging, and oncology.
The authors who contributed to this book include well-known experts and professors from more than 30 medical schools, research institutions, and major hospitals across China, primarily from departments of gastroenterology, abdominal surgery, infectious diseases, imaging, and oncology. Among them, the majority are senior experts, with some middle-aged and a few young physicians with strong writing and professional skills. Thus, this book represents a collective effort combining the wisdom of the old, middle-aged, and young, a crystallization of dedication and intelligence.
The senior experts and professors who participated in this book's compilation demonstrated a selfless spirit, working diligently despite poor health, and submitted their chapters on time. We express our highest respect for their professionalism. The middle-aged and young authors referenced extensive domestic and international literature to produce high-quality content. Here, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all contributors.
People's Military Medical Press played a pivotal role in supporting the review and publication of this book. Our sincere thanks go to them as well.
With the widespread use of CT, MRI, ultrasound, angiography, and electronic endoscopy, as well as the development of new drugs and treatment methods, the diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases have seen significant progress in recent years. For example, early diagnosis and treatment of gastric and liver cancers have greatly improved patients' 5-year and 10-year survival rates, with 10-year survival rates after early gastric cancer surgery exceeding 90%. However, treatment for some diseases remains unsatisfactory. Currently, there is no ideal antiviral therapy for viral hepatitis, and gene therapy may hold promise as a breakthrough. Therefore, finding rapid, accurate treatments and reducing mortality remains a noble yet challenging task.
We recommend this book to our colleagues as a reference for clinical practice and learning, hoping to contribute to further advancements.
In the current high-tech, high-information era, with the rapid progress of gastroenterology and the continuous updating of prevention and treatment methods, due to our limitations and the varying levels of expertise among authors, some new theories, technologies, and advancements may not be included in this book. We sincerely welcome criticism and corrections from our colleagues and readers.
