Patient's question:
What medication should be used for candidal vaginitis, and can it be cured? Follow-up question: Thank you very much, Doctor! Wishing you a Happy New Year!Doctor's answer:
Hello: This disease is extremely stubborn and can be cured, but the recurrence rate is high. The key to treatment is persistence, requiring full-course therapy. If diagnosed with candidiasis, a 2%--4% baking soda solution can be used daily to rinse the external genitalia and vagina or for sitz baths, with 10 days constituting a course. This aims to alter the pH and create conditions unfavorable for the survival of Candida. Subsequently, nystatin can be used, such as in powder, tablet, suppository, or ointment form, inserted into the vagina or applied locally, at a dose of 10--20 million units per time, once nightly, with 10--14 days constituting a course. The external genitalia can also be treated with 3% miconazole ointment for better results. Due to the stubborn and recurrent nature of the disease, local treatment is generally preferred. Alternatively, oral nystatin tablets can be taken, at a dose of 50--100 million units, three times daily, with 7--10 days constituting a course. Follow-up is then required, and the disease is considered cured only after three consecutive negative results.
