Patient's question:
I have been treated in a big hospital for nearly a year, but the vaginitis and cervical erosion keep recurring! What are the effects of these medications on the body??Doctor's answer:
These medications cause significant liver damage, and they should not be taken if liver function is abnormal. In fact, for candidal vulvovaginitis, topical medications are primarily used. Although this condition is very stubborn, as long as standard full-course treatment is administered, recovery is not very difficult. If diagnosed with candidal vulvovaginitis, a 2%–4% baking soda solution can be used daily to rinse the external genital area and vagina or for sitz baths, with 10 days constituting one course, to alter the pH and create conditions unfavorable for the survival of the fungus. Then, nystatin can be selected, such as in powder, tablet, suppository, or ointment form, to be inserted into the vagina or applied locally, with a dosage of 100,000–200,000 units per time, once nightly, for a course of 10–14 days. The external genital area can be treated with 3% miconazole ointment for better results. Due to the stubborn nature of the condition and its tendency to recur, local treatment is generally preferred. Alternatively, oral nystatin tablets can be taken, with a dosage of 500,000–1,000,000 units, three times daily, for a course of 7–10 days, followed by a follow-up to confirm three negative results before considering it cured.
