Patient's question:
How are embryos formed?Doctor's answer:
(1) Within two weeks after fertilization (i.e., four weeks of amenorrhea), it is called the zygote period, during which the fertilized egg undergoes rapid cell division to form a blastocyst.(2) Up to eight weeks of pregnancy, it is referred to as the embryonic period. At this stage, the embryo begins to take on a human-like form, and all organs develop and form. For example, the heart has formed and is beating, while the liver and kidneys are also beginning to develop, hence it is also called the period of embryonic organ formation.
(3) After eight weeks of pregnancy, it is termed the fetal period, during which the organs continue to develop and mature until delivery.
