Features: This book is divided into two parts:
Part 1: General Principles
It reviews the brief history of formula development while emphasizing the principles of complementary, mutually reinforcing, and counterbalancing compatibility in formulas. It explores the techniques of combining medicinal properties and flavors, the interplay of ascending and descending, the correlation of zang-fu and meridians, the appropriateness of counterbalancing compatibility, the integration of pharmacological mechanisms, and the relationship between dosage and efficacy. It establishes the principles of systematic formula composition based on reviewing the organ system and (formulating according to rules), and constructs models of using formulas for specific diseases, syndrome differentiation, and flexible adaptation, as well as integrating pharmacological effects. It also introduces basic theoretical knowledge and clinical operational skills, including common dosage forms.
Part 2: Specific Formulas
According to the principle of classifying formulas by methods, 538 formulas are divided into 19 chapters. Each chapter consists of five major knowledge units for the main formulas: formula origin, formula song, key points for learning and application, clarifying doubts, and illustrative cases. The newly compiled formula songs are practical; the key points for learning and application elaborate on the thinking and techniques of using formulas from six aspects: prescription, syndrome, formula compatibility principles, formulation characteristics, clinical key points, and supplementary formulas. The illustrative cases provide significant inspiration for clinical application of formulas.
This book is a valuable reference for teaching, research, and clinical staff in traditional Chinese medicine and integrated Chinese and Western medicine.
