Doctor's answer:

Hello, adenomyosis is a benign gynecological condition where the endometrium grows into the uterine muscle. The cause is unclear, and it can lead to symptoms such as dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), dyspareunia (pain during intercourse), infertility, and miscarriage. Clinically, it is primarily characterized by dysmenorrhea, increased menstrual flow, and uterine enlargement. However, its etiology, age of onset, clinical manifestations, and treatment principles differ from extrinsic endometriosis. It is more common in postmenopausal women aged 40–50. The reason is that the basal layer of the endometrium directly extends into the muscle layer, rather than through implantation or metaplasia.
Recommendation: Currently, medication can be used. However, clinical experience over the years has shown that medication for adenomyosis is ineffective and cannot provide a cure. Additionally, dysmenorrhea does not disappear.
Traditional Treatment: The definitive cure is a total hysterectomy (removal of the uterus). After (lesion clearance surgery), if about 1/4 of the uterine wall is preserved, the uterus can return to normal size within two years. This treatment can significantly reduce or eliminate dysmenorrhea and may even restore fertility.
Therefore, it is recommended to treat the condition first before considering pregnancy. Wishing you good health!
