Patient's question:
At 29 weeks and 1 day pregnant, the maximum depth of amniotic fluid is 5.5 cm. Is this normal? Does it fall under polyhydramnios?Additionally, the ultrasound performed simultaneously shows whether the placenta is mature or only at stage 0. Is there a problem? I see that some people are at stage 2 at 30 weeks. Does the timing of placental maturity relate to the baby's gender? Will delayed maturity lead to a later delivery than the expected due date?
Doctor's answer:
Hello:During the gestational period of 28 weeks to 40 weeks, the maximum amniotic fluid pool diameter measured by ultrasound remains stable within the range of 5.1 ± 2.1 cm. Therefore, the depth measurement of the maximum amniotic fluid pool perpendicular to the uterine contour (AFD) ≤ 2 cm indicates oligohydramnios; ≤ 1 cm indicates severe oligohydramnios.
Grade 0 placenta should be considered for placental growth restriction. Regular gynecological examinations can be performed!
