Features: Professor Yang Xianyi is a renowned scholar both in China and abroad. He translated the Western classical masterpiece "The Epic of Homer" into Chinese; he also translated "The Songs of Chu," "Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio," "The Scholars," "Dream of the Red Chamber," and parts of "Records of the Grand Historian" and "Zizhi Tongjian" into English, which have been widely circulated abroad. This book collects historical and literary research articles and notes written by Yang Xianyi in the 1940s, particularly those on the history of Sino-Western interactions. As mentioned earlier, the period of the Beibei National Translation Institute was one of Yang Xianyi's "highly productive" phases in his life. Recently, Professor Wang Dunshu of Nankai University in Tianjin dedicated a chapter in his book "Collected Works of Yishutang" to discuss Yang Xianyi's research on the history of China and the Byzantine Empire (i.e., the Eastern Roman Empire) in "Random Notes from Translation."
