Gardnerella vaginalis clue cells, how are they generally treated

Patient's question:

I found Gardnerella vaginalis in the vagina, with a vaginal cleanliness of grade II, and everything else is normal.
Please ask:
Should both partners be treated simultaneously?
How is it generally treated?
Will it recur after being cured?

Doctor's answer:

A mixed infection caused by the dysbiosis of the normal vaginal flora, but with no changes in clinical and pathological findings, predominantly involving anaerobic bacteria. The cause is not entirely clear. Some individuals are asymptomatic, while those with symptoms primarily experience increased vaginal discharge with a fishy odor, external itching, or a burning sensation, which worsens after intercourse. The first-line treatment is oral metronidazole 400 mg, taken 2-3 times daily for 7 days. Local application of metronidazole effervescent tablets 200 mg, used once nightly for 7-10 days, is also recommended. The cure rate is approximately 80%. During pregnancy, oral metronidazole is often used for treatment.
