Treatment of moderate cervical erosion

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I have been married for half a year and have always wanted a child. I have moderate cervical erosion. Why haven't I been pregnant yet?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Cervical erosion is a common inflammation of the female reproductive tract, classified into three degrees—mild, moderate, and severe—based on the proportion of the cervix affected by erosion. Treatment methods include non-invasive and invasive treatments. Local treatments using medication applied to the vagina are non-invasive, but this method is ineffective for moderate or severe cervical erosion. Invasive treatments involve localized cervical treatments using methods such as phototherapy, cryotherapy, laser, and electrocautery. This approach may cause minor damage to the cervix and sometimes affect its ability to dilate during childbirth, but it does not lead to infertility. Conversely, severe cervical erosion or acute infections, if left untreated, can result in infertility. Therefore, for women who have never been pregnant and are diagnosed with cervical erosion without affecting pregnancy or acute infections, cervical laser treatment can be postponed until after childbirth.
