Does vaginitis affect menstruation?

Patient's question:

I haven't had my period this month. Last month it was on the 27th. Starting from two days ago, my discharge has been slightly brown, and there was a bit of blood on that day. Previously, this would usually lead to my period, but yesterday there was no blood—only slightly brown discharge. I have a fungal vaginal infection. After treatment, my discharge often becomes creamy-like just before my period, and it's a bit like that after my period too, but it goes back to normal after a few days. What could be happening? Also, is my period affected by the vaginal infection? Does the vaginal infection affect my period?
Thank you, doctor~~~

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Generally, a delay or advancement of the menstrual cycle by one week is considered normal. Vaginitis can also affect the regularity of menstruation. Based on your condition, the first step is to actively treat vaginitis and wait for a few days to see the improvement.
After suffering from candidal vaginitis, the following precautions should be taken:
(1) Change underwear frequently, and choose loose-fitting underwear made of cotton or other breathable materials. Avoid nylon or non-cotton fabrics.
  (2) Wash underwear, used bathtubs, towels, and other items with boiling water for disinfection.
  (3) Irrigate the vagina once a week to prevent dysbiosis and bacterial infections.
  (4) Abstain from sexual activity. If either partner has athlete's foot, it should be treated promptly.
  (5) For individuals with malnutrition, weak constitutions, or chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes), closely monitor for other fungal infections in other parts of the body and actively manage the primary condition to enhance immunity.
  (6) This condition may coexist with trichomoniasis, so check for vaginal trichomoniasis. If present, treat it concurrently.
  (7) Avoid overusing antibiotics or hormones.
