Features: Thinking about how many good books there are in the world, I'm sure I won't have time to read them all, and I can't help but feel a sense of sorrow. What I cherish most in this world are good books and good women. Truly becoming oneself is not an easy thing. There are many people in the world whom you can call anything—such as a profession, an identity, a role—but never themselves. One person loved the song of the spring water so much that they filled it into a jar and hid it in a cabinet. We are often just as foolish as that person. We lock women in our homes and think we have possessed their beauty. We claim ownership of things and think we have possessed their meaning. But meaning cannot be possessed; once you try to claim it, it disappears.
At university, there was a saying: "Boys must read Wang Xiaobo, and girls must read Zhou Guoping." In the new book Fragments and Short Chapters, Professor Zhou Guoping records his thoughts and reflections on ordinary life. He places himself outside the hands of fate, calmly observing the world with a detached gaze, yet he cannot hide his deep love for life. Through philosophical insights into life, human nature, solitude, desire, love, and marriage, he once again presents his wisdom and poetic philosophy to the world.
Professor Zhou Guoping's works embody the principle of "reaching brilliance and returning to simplicity." Professor Zhou Guoping, a renowned expert on Nietzsche's philosophy and a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, spent five years publishing his third collection of reflections, Fragments and Short Chapters. This book is a compilation of his reflections from 2001 to 2005, divided into two parts. The first part, "Fragments," consists of the original raw material of his reflections, organized by themes such as human nature, being a person, handling affairs, emotions, and more. The second part, "Short Chapters," gathers shorter essays that were refined from the reflection material.
