How to Increase Fertility When the Left Ovary Is Non-functional?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical history and consultation purpose: I had a laparoscopic surgery for ectopic pregnancy one and a half years ago. This year, the doctor detected that my left ovary has lost function (there is a cyst). I would like to get pregnant. How can I increase the chances of conception? How can I avoid another ectopic pregnancy? Thank you

Doctor's answer:

If the function of the other ovary is good and the fallopian tubes are also unobstructed, you will get pregnant. Having one ovary removed will definitely have some impact compared to before, but as long as it is normal, you will still be able to get pregnant. You can start around seven days after your period is clean to do an ultrasound to check for ovulation, or measure your basal body temperature at home to monitor ovulation. Then, increase the frequency of sexual intercourse during the ovulation period.
