Issues with ovulation

Patient's question:

I had my period on November 17th. Since early December, I have been using an ovulation test kit for more than ten days, and the test always shows two lines, with the lower one very faint. My basal body temperature has also been in the low phase. My menstrual cycle is about 35 days long. Is it possible that ovulation is delayed due to stress or other reasons, or that I am not ovulating at all? If I try to get pregnant this month, will it be affected? Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Hello: It should not be affected!
Calculation of ovulation: It is not absolute and varies from person to person. Under normal circumstances, there is a rise in body temperature. Nowadays, many people have planned to have children on a specific schedule, so they are very concerned about how to calculate ovulation and how to use the basal body temperature method to determine the ovulation day. How should the basal body temperature method be done correctly?
If a woman has a regular menstrual cycle, the day of ovulation is also relatively fixed, usually around 14 days before the next menstrual period. For example, if this month's period is on March 5th, the next period might be on April 5th, and the ovulation day could be around March 20th. For women with irregular menstrual cycles, it may be more difficult to pinpoint the ovulation date. The simplest method is to measure the basal body temperature to find the ovulation date. The correct method for measuring basal body temperature is to take the temperature every morning immediately after waking up without any physical activity, and use a mouth thermometer.
After measuring, record the temperature each day on a basal body temperature chart. Once the temperature rises by 0.5 degrees compared to the previous day and remains elevated for three to five days, that day may be the ovulation day. If you want to conceive during the ovulation period, the best time to have intercourse is one to two days after the temperature rises, as this has the highest conception rate.
