1. Change Your Perspective, Change the World
Everyone has an inherent way of viewing the world in their heart. It's like a fingerprint—it cannot be exactly the same as any other person's. You are you, a sum of your expressions, behaviors, likes, and dislikes, forming an external trait called personality. You use it to interact with the outside world. However, it often clashes with reality. The result is that you are battered by reality, defeated and humbled. Complaining about fate is useless because you cannot change the powerful and irresistible world. Then, there is only one path left: change your perception of the world. This is not self-deception, not retreating in defeat, nor the spiritual victory of Ah Q. Countless historical examples, both ancient and modern, illustrate this: only when your inner world model changes, will the external world adjust accordingly, allowing you to adapt and achieve harmony. Only by shifting your perspective can you stand up again with renewed strength and bravely face the world and life. Otherwise, you will forever be crushed by the overwhelming reality, never able to rise again.
After suffering the brutal castration, Sima Qian was utterly despondent, wishing only to die. For him, personal dignity, official career, and life itself had lost all meaning. Death was the only real escape, and it could also serve as a gesture of defiance against Emperor Wu of Han. However, faced with reality, he gradually came to his senses: to a vast Han Dynasty, the death of one Sima Qian was as insignificant as the death of an ant. Such a death was lighter than a feather. But if he could write a timeless "Records of the Grand Historian," ensuring that future generations would remember and appreciate his contribution to history, wouldn’t that be the true value of his life? By changing his perspective on the world, the harsh reality he faced also transformed—his resentment toward emperors or despair over life were all replaced and dissolved by the "Records of the Grand Historian." Among all things, this was the greatest. Sima Qian was clever. He adopted a strategy of turning retreat into advance, changing his own perspective to reshape the world—refusing to be a victim of authoritarian politics, fighting against reality with unwavering belief and lofty ambition, ultimately achieving self-realization. This is the power of perspective.
In this world, what creates psychological barriers and affects one's happiness is not always a lack or abundance of material wealth or one's social status, but rather the change in one's mindset. If your heart is immersed in wounds and regrets, pain will consume your entire being. The same view from a cell window—some see a quagmire, while others see a starry sky. The world is shaped by what you believe in. If you are positive, the world is positive. Conversely, the opposite is true.
There is a story that will surely inspire you: A little boy found two eagle eggs in a cliffside nest. He was delighted and brought them home, placing them among chicken eggs and letting a hen hatch them. As a result, two eaglets hatched among the chickens.
