Features: Inheritance and innovation are the guiding principles of this book. Based on previous research, it aims to accurately grasp the thought trajectories of Ho Kai and Hu Liyuan and fully present their rich and diverse life experiences and inner worlds. The book is divided into four parts. Part I is the research review section, which comprehensively and systematically reviews the studies on Ho and Hu by scholars at home and abroad over the past five to six decades. Overall, research in this area remains weak, as evidenced by the limited number and quality of published monographs and academic papers. The second and third parts are the biographical sections, which explore the life paths of Ho and Hu, as well as the complex intellectual trajectories of cultural marginal figures during the period of societal transformation. The fourth part is the thought section, which focuses on analyzing the Great Unity thought, civil rights thought, and religious philosophical thought of Ho and Hu. The book argues that Ho and Hu are the most representative enlightenment thinkers of modern China, and their proposed comprehensive reform plans were unparalleled among their contemporaries. Ho and Hu's thought is both a product of Sino-Western integration and a synthesis of secular and religious elements, as well as a combination of reality and fantasy. The diversity of its constituent elements and the randomness of their arrangements have the awkwardness and helplessness of Ho and Hu's thought in the real world. After the old world was crushed by the wheels of history, Ho and Hu's thought could only become a symbol on the historical coordinate.
