Does chronic pelvic inflammatory disease cause infection?

Patient's question:

Do you think chronic pelvic inflammatory disease can affect the intestines and the diaphragm? I used to have chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, but after treatment, I recovered. Then, last Sunday, possibly due to overexertion while doing household chores, I’ve been feeling itchy in my lower abdomen and near the diaphragm these days (inside the abdomen, with a slightly warm sensation).

Doctor's answer:

Pelvic inflammatory disease is not contagious, but it may lead to other conditions, such as spreading infection, which can cause cervical inflammation, among others.
