Patient's question:
I have seen a traditional Chinese medicine doctor and noticed from the prescription that I have blood heat, but I don't know which type it is. Yin deficiency blood heat, Yang excess blood heat, and damp-heat are all forms of internal heat, but how can I distinguish which one I have? What is the difference between He Ye Wan (Lotus Leaf Pills) and Gu Jing Wan (Strengthening the Uterus Pills) in treating uterine bleeding?
Doctor's answer:
Hello, Gu Jing Wan is suitable for conditions of yin deficiency and blood heat, while He Ye Wan is suitable for other bleeding phenomena except for qi deficiency and blood heat. Yin deficiency is characterized by palpitations, restlessness, forgetfulness, insomnia with frequent dreams, dry tongue, and low-grade fever. Yang excess can manifest as dry cough, hemoptysis, low-grade fever, and susceptibility to colds, among other symptoms. Damp-heat can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, alternating chills and fever, general weakness, lack of sweating, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, chest tightness, and irritability.
