What are the advantages and disadvantages of caesarean section?

Patient's question:

Hello Doctor! I am 37 weeks pregnant, but the baby's position is still not right, with the head up. My doctor has recommended a cesarean section. Could you please answer the following:
1) What are the adverse effects of anesthesia on the baby during a cesarean section?
2) Will my recovery after a cesarean section take about two months, and what precautions should I take?

Doctor's answer:

First, cesarean section is safe and has indications. Anesthesia has no adverse effects on the baby.
Postoperative care:
1. Adopt a side-lying position with your body forming a 20 to 30-degree angle with the bed. This posture can reduce the vibration and pulling pain on the incision.
2. Sensation will return after about 3 to 4 hours. You can practice turning over and sitting up. The catheter will be removed after 24 hours, and you can gradually start walking.
3. Do not eat for the first 6 hours after surgery, then gradually increase your food intake.
4. You can be discharged after 5 to 6 days post-surgery. Pay attention to the amount of vaginal bleeding, which may be 1 to 3 times more than in a natural birth. If you feel discomfort, notify your doctor promptly.
Do not engage in sexual activity for the first month after a cesarean section. It is best to wait until after your first postpartum period before resuming sexual activity. If postpartum uterine involution is incomplete or there is placental residue leading to prolonged postpartum bleeding, the timing of sexual activity should be postponed based on the condition.
