Is a D&C procedure the same as a D&E procedure?

Patient's question:

Hello!
I had a post-abortion D&C procedure at a municipal hospital, recommended by a friend of a friend. I originally requested a painless procedure, but after the surgery, I found out it was a local anesthesia type, and it was extremely painful!! The doctor said it was a natural miscarriage, and the ultrasound showed nothing in the uterus, but I still had a small amount of bleeding, so the doctor recommended the D&C procedure. After the surgery, I realized it wasn’t a D&C at all—it was like a uterine clearance. I feel like I’ve been deceived. How could the friend who recommended me be so irresponsible!
While lamenting my experience, I’d like to ask about the D&C procedure

Doctor's answer:

Hello, Dilation and Curettage (D&C) is a technique for taking tissue samples when there is suspicion of endometritis, polyps, or other diseases. The amount of endometrium scraped during a D&C is relatively small. While a D&C is generally performed to clear residual tissue or fluid in the uterine cavity after a miscarriage, the purposes of the two procedures are different.
It is recommended that you choose the surgical method based on your individual condition—whether you have endometritis or uterine residue. Generally, the two procedures are similar, and a D&C may require cervical dilation.
