What are the symptoms of luteal phase defect?

Patient's question:

Basal body temperature is around 36.5 before ovulation (sometimes reaching 36.6), and around 36.8 after ovulation, sometimes only 36.75. The difference between the two is only 0.2-0.3. Can this indicate luteal phase deficiency?

Doctor's answer:

If the corpus luteum function is incomplete, the secretion function is poor, resulting in insufficient progesterone secretion. The clinical manifestations include regular menstrual cycles, but the cycle is shortened, or there is slight bleeding several days before the period, with no change in menstrual flow volume. Endometrial biopsy during the premenstrual period shows poor or uneven glandular secretion. Interstitial edema is not prominent. The basal body temperature is biphase, but the rise is slow, and the luteal phase is shorter than normal, generally around 10 days.
