Patient's question:
Hello, a few days ago the doctor examined me and said I had an ovarian cyst, which was 94.7 in size. However, I haven't felt any symptoms at all. Do I have to have surgery? Are there any medications that can treat it? My menstrual cycle has been quite regular, but it has been longer since the check-up, and the amount of bleeding is more than usual. Is this related to the cyst? Also, should I completely avoid sexual activity? I look forward to your reply and urgently need an answer. Thank you.Doctor's answer:
Hello, the only treatment for benign ovarian tumors is surgical resection. For cysts with a diameter of less than 5 to 6 cm, observation for 3 to 6 months is recommended. If the cyst continues to grow, or if the tumor has a diameter of less than 5 cm but is solid, surgical resection should be performed. For children and young, nulliparous patients, unilateral oophorectomy or unilateral adnexectomy is often adopted. If the patient has bilateral benign ovarian tumors, the doctor may consider ovarian tumor enucleation to preserve as much ovarian tissue as possible, thereby maintaining menstrual and fertility functions. Laparoscopic surgery has smaller abdominal incisions and a faster recovery.
