Features: Lijiang is a beautiful city. The author has dedicated many years to the study of Lijiang Ancient Town and Naxi ethnic residential architecture. He has visited the streets and residences of Lijiang Ancient Town dozens of times, meticulously surveying and researching them. With a unique perspective, he has highlighted their historical, scientific, and artistic value, which is of great significance to the preservation of Lijiang Ancient Town.
For the second edition, three basic ideas were considered:
First, to maintain the original appearance of the city in a certain historical period without later modifications. For this, the images must be (field shots) before 1985, and the text should largely retain its original simplicity, distinguishing it from the numerous related image collections and books published later.
Second, to continue emphasizing the reference value and practicality of the book rather than academic depth. For this, the layout was revised to better integrate images and text, using more photographs and measured drawings to convey information, along with concise analyses in plain language. This positions the book between a general image appreciation collection and advanced theoretical works, making it accessible to the general public rather than experts and scholars. The goal is to help more people understand the value of the ancient town and its residences, thereby better preserving and inheriting them.
Third, to appropriately expand the content on the ancient town rather than simply reprinting the original version. For this, additional images and text about the ancient town were added, new chapters were included, and the book title was changed to "Lijiang Ancient Town and Naxi Ethnic Residential Architecture."
This revision was driven by a sense of urgency: adding images of the early environment and appearance of the ancient town is to prevent these beautiful aspects from being lost. Increasing the analysis of the spatial characteristics of the ancient town is to further recognize its value in both the preservation of the old town and the development of new areas, inheriting and promoting these excellent traditions.
