If I am pregnant, is the pain normal???

Patient's question:

Hello! I had my period on November 15th, and it's now the 27th, but I haven't had it yet. I've been experiencing occasional lower abdominal pain, similar to the pain before my period, but it comes and goes. Before this, my periods were very regular, usually delayed by about 5 days. I want to ask if it's possible I could be pregnant now? If I am pregnant, is this pain normal? (I have used a pregnancy test, and although it showed two lines, the second line was very faint.)

Doctor's answer:

Pain in the abdomen during the early stages of pregnancy is not uncommon. This could be a normal physiological phenomenon caused by pregnancy, commonly referred to as spasmodic abdominal pain. It is primarily caused by the expansion of the uterus and the stretching of the round ligaments. However, if you frequently experience abdominal pain in the early stages of pregnancy, it is important to be cautious. It could be a sign of certain medical conditions, and pregnant women should seek immediate medical attention for diagnosis and appropriate treatment. But if you frequently experience abdominal pain in the early stages of pregnancy, and you also have symptoms such as spotting, bleeding, fever, chills, vaginal discharge, tenderness, and pain during spasmodic abdominal pain, or if the pain does not subside after resting for a few minutes, it is recommended that you visit a hospital promptly.
