How to confirm if it is an ectopic pregnancy or normal pregnancy?

Patient's question:

I had my period last month on the 11th/24th, and it usually comes a few days earlier. But it hasn’t arrived yet. Yesterday (12/25), I used a pregnancy test and got two red lines, indicating I’m pregnant. However, when I went to a big hospital for an ultrasound, they didn’t see anything. The urine HCG test came back positive. The hospital wants me to come back in a week for another check-up.
How long after pregnancy is it usually possible to see something on an ultrasound? What is the likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy? If I don’t want to continue the pregnancy, what is the best way to treat it? I’m desperate for your help!

Doctor's answer:

A fertilized egg inside the uterus is called an intrauterine pregnancy, while implantation anywhere outside the uterus is called an ectopic pregnancy, the most common type being a tubal pregnancy. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for an ultrasound and combine it with blood HCG results to determine if it is an intrauterine or ectopic pregnancy. If it is an ectopic pregnancy, early treatment is necessary.
Symptoms of ectopic pregnancy: a small amount of bleeding, with lower abdominal pain. If you don’t have these symptoms, it cannot be an ectopic pregnancy.
