Can mycoplasma infection cause pregnancy?

Patient's question:

I have been pregnant for over a month and have been tested positive for Mycoplasma infection. What should I do? Could you please ask the doctor? As soon as possible! Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

Hello:
Ureaplasma urealyticum can be vertically transmitted through the placenta or spread from the lower genital tract of the pregnant woman upwards, causing intrauterine infection. Both routes can lead to adverse outcomes such as miscarriage, preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction, low birth weight, premature rupture of membranes, and even fetal death in utero. During delivery, the fetus is also susceptible to infection as it passes through the birth canal. Common infections include neonatal conjunctivitis, followed by respiratory infections in newborns. Other infections include otitis media and pharyngitis.
Medications that do not affect the fetus can be administered under the guidance of a doctor.
