Patient's question:
On November 20th, I went to the hospital and was prescribed Suping and Huangpu Wash. My period was supposed to come on the 24th, but now it's December 9th and I still haven't gotten it. I've already finished both the medicine and the wash long ago. Could this medicine delay my period? Also, I had an IUD inserted last year, so I shouldn't be pregnant, right. I'm so worried now—why hasn't my period come yet after all this time! The doctor said I need to go back for a follow-up three to seven days after my period ends. I'm really desperate!Doctor's answer:
Hello: Your condition is not pregnancy, it should be a symptom of menstrual irregularity caused by medication.Chronic cervicitis is one of the most common diseases in women. It often develops from acute cervicitis and is more common in married women who are physically weak. The cause is usually due to damage to the cervix during sexual intercourse or childbirth, allowing bacteria to invade.
The main symptom is an increase in leukorrhea, which is typically viscous or purulent mucus, sometimes with blood or hematuria during intercourse. Secondary symptoms include vulvar itching, lower abdominal or lumbosacral pain, which worsens during intercourse, menstruation, and defecation.
Treatment is primarily local, such as cervical electrocoagulation, laser, cryotherapy, or the use of corrosive agents (e.g., chromic acid, potassium permanganate).
Prescription:
1. 2–3 days after treatment, there may be a significant amount of bloody or yellowish watery discharge from the vagina, often requiring the use of menstrual pads. This usually stops within about 3 weeks.
2. If excessive vaginal discharge causes discomfort in the vulva, warm water or a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution can be used to clean the vulva, twice a day.
3. Wear 100% cotton underwear and change it frequently to maintain vulvar hygiene.
4. Abstain from sexual intercourse for 1–2 months.
5. Avoid swimming in swimming pools.
