Patient's question:
Please ask if itchy external genitalia and yellow discharge are currently being treated with traditional Chinese medicine. Can I use Jie'eryin for washing? Is it beneficial? Or should I just use clean water for washing during treatment? How effective is traditional Chinese medicine? Thank you.First follow-up question: I only have yellow discharge, not transparent discharge with a touch of light yellow. There's a small bump on my external genitalia, but it's not painful or itchy. The external genitalia aren't itchy. Is it serious? Is it vaginitis? Can polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine solution be used to clean the external genitalia or vagina for any type of vaginitis? Is it beneficial?
Doctor's answer:
Hello: Traditional Chinese medicine has a certain therapeutic effect. Yellow discharge may indicate bacterial vaginosis. The following treatment plan is provided:Treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis:
1. Metronidazole (Flagyl)
Dosage: 0.2–0.4g orally per dose, 2–3 times daily, for 7 days. It can also be administered via intravenous infusion.
2. Ampicillin
Dosage: 0.5g orally per dose, 3 times daily. It can also be diluted and administered via intravenous infusion in two divided doses of 6g daily.
Local Treatment
1. Maintain local hygiene by frequently cleaning the area.
2. Regularly rinse the vagina with 3% boric acid or dilute acetic acid, followed by rinsing with clean water to alleviate symptoms.
3. Using erythromycin solution for rinsing may also be effective.
4. Rinse the vagina with "Jie'eryin" or "Fu Yin Jie" internally, once daily or every other day.
Precautions:
- Sexual partners, regardless of symptoms, should undergo appropriate treatment.
- Bacterial vaginosis may coexist with other sexually transmitted diseases, so relevant examinations and corresponding treatments should be conducted.
