Features: Tianren finally finds a job but is inexplicably fired by his boss. The only thing to be grateful for is meeting a friend named "Eyeglasses," and the two become companions struggling to survive. In desperation, Tianren meets Danny and gets a job at Danny's office. Several young people work hard and start to see some success in their careers, but then disaster strikes—another wave of misfortune scatters their good friends once again. Tianren and "Eyeglasses" lose their jobs. With no other choice, thanks to the help of a kind-hearted person named "Guanshiyin," they open a photocopying shop to make a living. During this time, the "Qingcheng Taoist" arrives, enlightening Tianren that life is merely a banquet of "coming together and parting, parting and coming, coming and parting, parting and coming."
With their basic needs met, Tianren and "Eyeglasses" grow ambitious, wanting to do something more. "Eyeglasses" becomes the vice president of a company called "Black People," only to realize he has fallen into a trap. Meanwhile, Tianren starts a business with "A Wolf on the Side of the Road" and makes a lot of money, even rescuing "Eyeglasses." Several beautiful women appear and disappear, perhaps forever leaving the lives of the protagonists behind.
The story features over forty characters, including a farmer entrepreneur, laborers, returnees from abroad, an American CEO, a Russian drunkard, a poet, a recluse, white-collar women, Japanese businesspeople, American professors, migrant workers, and all sorts of small characters from the workplace. They come and go one after another, performing a series of comedies, farces, and tragedies of life—each one a tale of "coming together and parting, parting and coming."
