Pump and Pump Station - (Third Edition)

Author: Liu Zhuxi
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2006-04-01
Features: This book is a national-level planning teaching material for the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" of general higher education. The book is divided into 11 chapters, where Chapters , II, III, IV, V, and VII introduce the types, structures, basic theories, and performance of centrifugal pumps, determination and regulation of pump operating conditions, cavitation of pumps and its protection, selection and matching of pumps and power units, as well as auxiliary equipment of pump stations; Chapters VI, VIII, IX, X, and XI discuss aspects of pump station engineering planning, design, economic analysis of pump station engineering, and pump station management, respectively. This book not only covers technical issues of electromechanical irrigation and drainage pump stations but also includes content on the planning and design of urban and industrial water supply and drainage pump stations. It also lists the English translations of common professional terms in pump station engineering to meet the needs of bilingual teaching. This book can serve as a general textbook for undergraduate students of agricultural water conservancy engineering in higher education institutions, as well as a textbook for undergraduate students of water supply and drainage engineering and thermal energy and power engineering in the fluid machinery and engineering direction. It can also be used as a technical reference for engineers engaged in the planning, design, and operation management of pump stations.
Preface to the Third Edition
Since its publication in 1986, Professor Liu Zhuxi's edited Pumps and Pump Stations (Second Edition) has been widely used by universities across the country and has been well-received by readers. It was awarded the second prize in teaching materials for higher education institutions by the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Education in 1987 and 1992, respectively. In the past two decades, with the continuous advancement of science and technology and the emergence of new equipment and technologies, the technical and management standards of electromechanical irrigation and drainage pump stations in China have been continuously improved and refined, making it necessary to update the textbook content to meet the requirements of the new era. In 2002, this textbook was included in the national-level planning teaching materials for general higher education under the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" of the Ministry of Education.
This book is a completely rewritten version based on the Pumps and Pump Stations (Second Edition), adhering to the editorial requirements of the national-level planning teaching materials for the "Tenth Five-Year Plan." It is a required textbook for the major of agricultural water conservancy engineering in higher vocational and technical colleges. The book is divided into 11 chapters, with the first five chapters focusing on centrifugal pumps, covering basic theories, equipment performance, and operational regulation; the last six chapters focus on pump stations, strengthening discussions on engineering planning and design, selection and matching of electromechanical equipment, and operation management of pump stations. It not only covers technical issues of electromechanical irrigation and drainage pump stations but also includes content on the planning and design of urban and industrial water supply and drainage pump stations to broaden students' knowledge.
During the revision, the book strives to reflect advanced technologies and equipment both domestically and internationally, emphasizing a systematic and economic perspective while strengthening the connection and coherence between pumps and pump stations.
This book is edited by Professor Liu Zhuxi and Liu Jingzhi of Wuhan University. The introduction, Chapters V, VI, IX, and XI, as well as parts of Chapters , III, VII, and VIII, were written by Liu Jingzhi. Chapters and II were written by He Zhongren, Chapters III and VII by Chen Jian, and Chapters VIII and X by Zhou Longcai. Liu Jingzhi was also responsible for the overall compilation and finalization of the book. During the compilation process, Liu Jingzhi made additions, deletions, revisions, and refinements to the chapters written by the contributors, and rewrote some sections. Additionally, to meet the needs of bilingual teaching, the English translations of common professional terms in pump station engineering are listed in parentheses immediately following each term in the book.
