Patient's question:
Patient Age: 28Detailed Condition and Purpose of Consultation: I am currently breastfeeding my child who is over 50 days old. In the past two days, I have experienced localized pain in one breast with a small hard lump. Is it mastitis? If so, how can I resolve it quickly, and can I continue breastfeeding?
Duration of Current Illness: 2 days
Current General Condition: Localized pain in one breast with a hard lump, experiencing pain during breastfeeding.
Doctor's answer:
Hello, based on your consultation, it is still considered mastitis. In this case, it is recommended to treat the symptoms accordingly. It is advised to have a blood test. If the symptoms are caused by mastitis, active anti-inflammatory treatment is needed. Antibiotics can be taken orally or administered intravenously depending on the condition. It is recommended to use penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. Stop breastfeeding on the affected side, and applying heat can also be helpful. In most cases, mastitis can improve within 24 hours. If the fever persists for more than 24 hours, antibiotic treatment should be considered. While undergoing treatment, continue to express milk, either by hand or using a breast pump.
