Patient's question:
Can ovarian tumors be cured?Doctor's answer:
Hello:1. Western medicine considers the only treatment for benign ovarian tumors to be surgical removal. For cysts with a diameter of less than 5–6 cm, observation for 3–6 months is recommended. If the cyst continues to grow, or if the tumor has a diameter of less than 5 cm but is solid, surgical removal should be performed. However, surgical removal is prone to recurrence and may lead to secondary pelvic inflammation, infertility, and other complications.
2. For children and young, nulliparous patients, unilateral oophorectomy or unilateral adnexectomy is often performed. If the bilateral ovarian tumors are benign, ovarian tumor enucleation is preferred to preserve as much ovarian tissue as possible, thereby maintaining menstrual and reproductive functions. For patients in perimenopausal stages with bilateral ovarian tumors, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is commonly performed. In recent years, some have advocated retaining normal ovarian tissue to maintain normal female physiological functions.
