Features: Today's Israel is a young nation built upon the foundations of past eras, boasting an astonishingly diverse and complex population. This land has been the focal point of global civilization, the cradle of human ancestors, a stage for fury and passion, and the meeting point of the world's three major religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. This book is a journey of discovery through the holy land, following the banks of the Jordan River, venturing into the mountains of Galilee, from the coastal ports along the Mediterranean Sea to the vast sands of the Negev, collecting fragments of history and striving to piece together a thousand-year-long scroll of human civilization. This journey will reveal the desolation of the desert and the depths of the caves by the Dead Sea, as well as the enduring brilliance of countless vanished city-states. It will explore the monuments left by many great civilizations: Jewish forts, Nabatean caravanserais, Roman theaters, Byzantine churches, early Arab mosques, Crusader castles, and Mamluk palaces. Exquisite aerial photographs, most of which are newly disclosed treasures of art, masterpieces of ancient paintings, portraits, and scenes of daily life—all captured by photographers from around the world. They clearly showcase the important features of this land and are dedicated to conveying and expressing its extraordinary charm. The author provides insightful commentary—vivid and comprehensive—in tandem with the images. Additionally, detailed maps, cross-sections, full-color illustrations, and reconstructions by seasoned experts recreate the glory of Jerusalem during the Herodian period. They also depict the splendor of other significant sites such as Caesarea, Bet Shean, Masada, Megiddo, and more. "Israel—The Light of the Holy Land" is a gift to this land, whose multifaceted face awaits your unveiling.
