How long does candidiasis last?

Patient's question:

I had candidal vulvovaginitis during pregnancy, and it didn't improve during the pregnancy. If I want to be treated after giving birth, what is the best time to do so?

Doctor's answer:

Related to candidiasis vulvovaginitis, also known as candidal vulvovaginitis, it is the most common type of vaginitis, with the causative agent being Candida albicans. Treatment typically involves a course of 10–14 days. After completing one course of treatment, follow-up examinations should be conducted after each menstrual cycle, followed by three consecutive consolidation treatment courses.
Recommendation 1: Vaginal medication using imidazole suppositories for vaginal application.
Recommendation 2: External medication, applying clotrimazole cream or terbinafine cream externally.
Recommendation 3: Oral medication. If sexual activity is involved, it is recommended that both partners undergo treatment together. Although Candida causes adverse clinical symptoms in women but not in men, if the male carries the fungus during sexual activity, it can re-infect the female, which is a major reason for the recurrence of candidiasis vulvovaginitis. During treatment, sexual activity should be avoided, plenty of water should be consumed, and spicy, cold, or other irritating foods should not be eaten.
