Features: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is one of the most dynamic fields in today's economic activities. To date, domestic and international scholars have studied and explored some basic patterns of FDI, but research specifically focused on the regional selection of FDI remains scarce. This book references, draws upon, and incorporates the latest domestic and international findings on FDI, particularly on regional selection theory. It employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, normative and empirical analysis, theoretical and case study analysis, integrating static and dynamic analysis, comparative analysis, and specific policy research. The book combines textual and graphical presentations, supplemented by necessary and more intuitive theoretical models or analytical frameworks. Using a theoretical-historical-statistical approach, it reviews the existing theories of FDI regional selection; analyzes the decision-making factors of FDI regional selection; elaborates on the decision-making process, performance evaluation methods, and processes, as well as relevant policies, revealing the evolutionary patterns of FDI. It also conducts research on China's FDI regional selection, Japan's outward FDI, and the regional selection of research and development (R&D) centers.
By taking regional selection as an entry point to study FDI theory, this book applies the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) paradigm of industrial economics for economic analysis. It boldly proposes the Environmental Factor-FDI Regional Selection Behavior-Performance (ECP) paradigm to evaluate FDI regional selection, treating FDI regional selection as a system. It considers the various factors influencing FDI regional selection as inputs of the system, the regional selection decision-making process as the system's process, and performance as the system's output. The book views this system as an evolving process, proposing models for the transformation of FDI regional selection, the theory that FDI must match regional industrial structures, and the evolutionary model of three generations of FDI policy.
