Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: There are many white, cheesy-looking discharge from the vaginal opening with a slight odor. Could this be something like vaginitis or something else?Duration of the current illness: Nearly a year
Auxiliary tests: None
Medical history: None
Doctor's answer:
Your condition is considered to be related to candidiasis. Candidiasis can be treated by cleaning the external genitalia with baking soda solution, using nystatin vaginal suppositories, and taking oral itraconazole and ketoconazole. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed, washed, and boiled daily. After one course of treatment, a negative result for candidiasis should be obtained. Subsequent follow-up tests for candidiasis should also be negative after each menstrual cycle. Continuous consolidation treatment for three more courses is required to be considered cured. It is best for the male partner to also be treated concurrently, taking nystatin tablets for one week. Shoes and socks should be washed separately from underwear. Otherwise, it is easy to relapse. The reasons for relapse are generally incomplete treatment and reinfection from the sexual partner.
