How to treat trichomoniasis?

Patient's question:

Doctor: I have completed the three injections for the medication to treat trichomoniasis. Now I am continuing to use metronidazole suppositories and Ganlin rinse. Should I wait until the December period ends before going for a check-up, or should I go for a check-up after completing the current course of medication? My leukorrhea hasn't shown any abnormalities because I have been using the medication every day!

Doctor's answer:

1. Systemic Treatment
(1) Metronidazole (Flagyl) – Adults: 3 times daily; children: reduce dose as appropriate. For intestinal trichomoniasis, the course of treatment is 3–5 days. For trichomoniasis of the urethra, vagina, or oral cavity, the course of treatment is 7–10 days. Contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women.
(2) Tinidazole – Used for urinary and genital tract infections, as well as oral infections. Double the first dose, then take once daily for 5–6 days.
(3) Griseofulvin – 3 times daily, for a total of 5–7 days of treatment.
2. Local Treatment
(1) Trichomoniasis Vaginitis – First, wipe the vaginal walls with a soap-soaked cotton ball, then rinse the vagina with a 0.02% potassium permanganate solution or warm water. Next, rinse with 1% lactic acid or 0.5% acetic acid and dry thoroughly.
Use Tinidazole, Clotrimazole, or Metronidazole (choose one) to insert into the posterior fornix of the vagina or spray into the vagina. Apply once nightly or every other night for a course of 7–10 days. May be used for 2–3 consecutive courses.
(2) Oral Hygiene – Rinse the mouth with saltwater, maintain oral cleanliness, and avoid eating sweet foods before bedtime.
